boats and airlines?

Anyone know which carriers let you check kayaks for domestic flights? I had a friend denied by American Airlines last fall and am concerned about gettting nipped the day of flying.

Run a search on "airlines" and you'll get about 15 very informative threads. More than I could ever hope to type here. I've flown on Frontier and United with my playboat.

Yes, Frontier is the best out of Denver. United works, but they are expensive.

Continental and Delta say they don't allow any kayaks. I think this policy is a hold over from when kayaks were 11' long. Both allow surf boards.

Several people have said that if you wrap your boat and call it something other than a kayak, like a "surf ski" or whatever, you can get away with it.
