Boating in Utah?

I'll be passing through Utah mid-July. Is there anything to run (class 4ish) outside of the multi-day, permitted trips?

Not really...

There is some Class IV stuff in Utah, but it is usually all dried up by the first week of June. The Payettes in Idaho are 6 hours from SLC, and the Henrys Fork of the Snake (Sheeps Falls and Lower Mesa) is 4 hrs from SLC. Those are probably your closest good whitewater options for July.

For kayaks this late in the season Utah isn't super ideal, but the Moab Daily run is fun easy II-III, the Green River daily is similar. Not technical in the least but god damn is it beautiful. Tons of scenic flat water all over the Colorado and Green, dailies to multi-day.

Midweek Westwater Permits are easy to pickup and are relatively cheap . Kinda like unpermitted. Easily done in a day. Hell, lap it multiple days in a row as its a classic.

Ah yes, the boat abuse season approaches... Ogden narrows at 90 cfs. Good times!

If you're a boater and live in Utah you will learn to like butt time in a car.
