Boating in Moab?

I'll be going out to Moab this weekend and probably staying a couple nights/maybe a week. I know I'll be right next to the Colorado but don't know much about boating in that area.

Is it worth bringing a creeker or playboat? What runs are good this time of year - I have a shuttle so that wouldn't be an issue.

the most convienient float is called the daily and it starts right outside of moab. low key stretch with numerous put-ins and can make a day of it or a half day.

Fat tire is right. There is one daily section w/ low water conditions right now. At this level, it is predominantly a class II+ float. The the scenery alone makes this worthwhile anytime of year except labor day or memorial day weekends where a carnival like atmosphere exists. Westwater (requires off-season permit) is about 50 miles upstream and an excellent day run or overnighter. Check the Westwater Ice thread to see if it's viable.

FYI road closure this Saturday

Hwy 128 from Hwy 191 to milepost 12 will be closed from 8am to 1pm on Saturday for the Canyonlands Half Marathon. There's a bunch of the river floatable upstream from there but it might complicate your take-out and/or shuttle plans. Also, if you don't have a place to stay yet, it might be tough finding one for Friday night.

I have only run the Daily in super-high water conditions and it was pretty much all washed out then (but fast current and nasty eddy lines). I'm sure it's way different now.

Cool, thanks for the beta guys. Looks like it's pretty mellow water around there so I'll just bring the bike and hopefully come back to some good water in April!

Shuttle in Moab

when you are in Moab Call Damion with Moab Taxi. We have used him for years, call while you are in Moab because you do not have phone service at Hittle bottom. Shuttles four drivers for around $30 without tip. Great guy always been on time , he shuttles bikes as well. 1/2 Marathon huge pain in the A$$, All most as much as the Iron Horse. I'm sure they charge them just as much to run down the road.
