boat repair on the Poudre

So yesterday we ran Upper Mish down through the Bridges and about 1/2 way down we bumped into some folks with a boat with a hole. Seemed some of the hardware had pulled right through the plastic (yellow was the color but I don't remember where that fit in the strength thread). They were looking for something to patch it so they could continue on. We didn't have paddle wax and the duct tape didn't work but Susan said "hey, I've got a tampon in my first aid kit". Rest of the story is they stuffed it in the hole, applied water to make it swell and paddled away.

Since we didn't see them again, we're wondering if the "patch" worked. Anyone out there know the end of the story? Should the boating stores start selling tampons for on the river boat fixes?
