I agree. When I was an outfitter, I found quite a range of pricing. I ended up with Liberty Mutual. Just like buying car insurance, there are many things that influence your premium. An 18 year old boy with a bad driving record and a Corvette is going to pay a lot more than a middle aged housewife driving a mini-van.
An outfitter who takes people out on Class V water and has a history of claims is certainly going to pay more than someone who runs Class III-IV water and has a clean history.
I know nothing of the circumstances surrounding the outfitter who started this thread, but I have to believe that there's more going on there than just an increase in the liability limit--although, it is a fact that many people see an accident as an opportunity to clean-out the insurance company, rather than just get fair compensation for injury, and attorneys for those people will make sure to run the settlement all the way up to the liability limit (and beyond) if they possibly can.
