I know you've just bought a boat, but as an FYI, there are a TON of boaters and gear options in PDX, OR. Craigslist isn't the best place to look. Check out: Portland, Oregon Boating Community <- this fb page has a list of everything that's currently for sale in the group

There's also a weekly after work "confidence and carnage" run on the Clack that's put on by Next Adventure- it'll get posted on the fb page and on the pdxkayaker email list, probably a good place for you to meet other boaters.

good luck!

Awesome, thanks for the info! I had a feeling it may have just been a slow time on the lists.
I went and talked to one of the guys at Next Adventure last week. He made it sound like they only do those runs on Wednesdays starting in the fall.

I thought NA did those runs all summer... hmm.

OK, I'll also throw this group out there- it's the fb page for my old corvallis crew, we didn't get many pdx folk turning out to join us on the north santiam, but they're definitely the coolest people to kayak with:

they usually do a class 1-2(3) run once a week afterwork.
