Been on the MF Salmon since they Cleared Pistol Creek?

Pistol creek was clogged with a huge logjam last week which the forest service used explosives to dislodge. Apparently about 25 rafts were backed up for a day or so before they were allowed to move downriver.

So, has anybody run Pistol since then? Did the explosives change the rapid?

From the Idaho Whitewater forum:

Re: Pistol Creek Now

From Will's site

Looks pretty much the same to me. Must just be our imagination that
it changed.........or maybe because we were more focused on dodging
logs above the rapid.......and that made the rapid seem easier.

just returned from MF and not sure what pistol creek rapid looked like before but there is alot of new soil and rock deposited at the mouth of the creek.
The new entrance line runs down right bank with a fairly large tree standing just right of center giving you about 8-9 feet of l clearance on left in very fast moving water. Could be big conequences if you hit this tree because wrapping here would suck and you want to pull hardright below this feature to set up for next drop.
The alternative is to sneak your boat down the boulder strewn left channel which is definitley the safer line but a lot less fun.
Other than that pretty straight forward.
Very impressive blow out though with noticable water clarity changes after pistol creek.
Fishing is still good below , and the beer seemed to go down alright as well
I rate this trip as on of the best of my life for sure, and the upper section above Indian creek should not be missed.

As the water drops lower the only option will be to run the right side below the debris fan.

I talked to a sweep boatman and he said that the outfitters are running the sweeps down the right channel. One had hit the tree and gotten damaged. He felt someone would be taking the tree out soon.

High water next year will remove all the wood and leave only the big rocks.

I will correct Bryan. Pistol Creek did not blowout, the debris fan is at Lake Creek about 1/2 mile above Pistol Rapid.

Thanks Cadster, got a little excited there.
Been thinking of the trip all day long and can't wait to float it again someday.
So many rivers so little time.

Here's video footage of the USFS dynamiting the logjam:
