BC in September

After reading the Chilko thread (which looks awesome and I'd never heard of it before), I'm itching to go to BC. With my work schedule, I typically can't take a ton of time off until September, but can usually rally a few weeks after that. It looks like the Whistler area and Thompson may still be in, but I'd love to get on some of the other local go to runs even at low flows. Is it worth the long drive up there that time of year or is it drying up? I've done a little bit of research, but any local beta for anywhere in the region would be much appreciated. I'd also be open to runs in Eastern BC is anything would be in that time of year. Thanks in advance.

BC in September..

I have visited Whistler and paddled the Lilloet, some of the Green, and the Soo in mid Sept. They were all lowish but paddleable. Also rafted the Ilaho and the Thompson. Again, lowish but doable. There are tons of more intense runs around Whistler but I do not know their status at that time of year. Its definitely worth going to however you look at it.
I went with a local guide calling himself Captain Holiday. Excellent logistical support and guiding. Google him to see if he's still around.

Captain holiday is still about!! Don is a great guy.

Also go to "whitewater whistler" on Facebook.

Fear canyon will be in, so will "balls to the wall" on the Cheak. Plus some other sections / runs. Callaghan and soo are likely to be out unless it rains. Upper Cheak may be in.

Also see LiquidLore for descriptions

To summarize, you can find good stuff to paddle, but not all of the classics will be in. July / early August is the best time to come imo.

There is a fair bit on the go in that neck of the woods in September and late August. Chilko is a rad run, with long 4wd access and a few different options on put ins and take outs. It can still be a fairly meaty level in early August. The best info comes from the Williams lake crew. There is also unlikely paddle fest in late september that usually sees several groups hit the chilko on the Monday for camping and boating after 2 days of Upper Quesnel and Caribou rivers. Further east the Upper Fraser is a must do and there are also several rivers between Jasper and Prince George that are worth running. It is a haul to get there.
