Study next step for whitewater park Aspen, CO Colorado
May 23, 2007
BASALT — Pitkin County and the town of Basalt might pony up $10,000 to undertake further study of a whitewater park on the Roaring Fork River through Basalt.
Pitkin County is working on a proposal for each government to chip in $5,000 to fund the study, Basalt Town Manager Bill Efting said. The governments started a preliminary look at the concept about a year ago; the study would “take it a step further,” Efting told the Basalt Town Council Tuesday night.
Efting said Pitkin County Attorney John Ely is working on a proposal, and details of the study weren’t available yet. Efting indicated he would be back before the board at a later date to see if they want to commit the funds.
The park could include water features for kayakers and other paddlers on the Roaring Fork River along with trails and other amenities at key places along the riverbank.
That would bring our total for the area to 3. That is if the city of G-wood breaks ground this winter ( 07/08 ) and Bonedale get it together and actually goes through with their plans.
Independence Pass was supposed to open today. Not open as of this post. Possibly friday.
