Bakers box on Saturday

A small group of experienced boaters were looking to do the bakers box on Saturday july 14th. One of us has done it before but doesn't feel like he knows it well enough to lead. We're looking for someone who knows the run well to show us the lines. Give me a call anytime if your interested.

Thanks

You may want to talk to Dan or Johnny. Their screen names are DES and Floaty22 respectively. I'm pretty sure both of them have run it and if not, then they'll point you in the right direction.

unrunnable gorge

Thanks. I love that name, "unrunnable gorge". In twenty years the young upstarts will be laughing at that as they complete another after work run in their hover kayaks.

Mike, should clarify. Baker's Box aka Pandora's Box IS the bottom half of the "unrunnable gorge." Both therangelfie.blogspot.com and shane's blog have info on it. Basically only one part is unrunnable (sieve), and the portage around it is nearly impossible, so a lower put-in was scoped. And yes, the locals are running it afterwork.

Private Property everywhere, so a guide is mandatory to keep conflicts at a minimum.

Not to mention walled in and blind V+ whitewater, which is why its so damn good.

At the current low level you are very likely to get stuck! There’s a reason that the old timers hardly ran this section. They believed that the entire section was nearly unrunnable as the drops do sieve out when the river is to low. Once the sieves are filled in with good flow, they make very hard 5+ drops that are unscoutable. However, when walled in drops become sieves you are in for a world of trouble.

Also at this time of year there are guided horse rides on the private land and the land owners and his gang are often out hunting. If you fuck up and run into anyone, you fuck up the access for everyone! The land owner is very firm on his private land stance.

Sorry fore such a grim post, but I'm just getting the information out there that needs to be known

New flagging on the hike in as of a week ago. Fresh tire tracks as of a couple of days ago and there was a car parked at the cabin. Weekends are when he is most likely there so please think ahead before you put the access in jeopardy. The sign on the way in reads "Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again". It seems to make his stance clear. Sucks its private land, but thats how it is. As for getting sieve laiden, at 750 it was already there and Ive spent some time in there.
