Bailey Fest Volunteer & Paddle - Sat June 25
I need some help. Please consider volunteering some time to help Bailey Fest and have some fun on the water as well.
I made an agreement with a private landowner along the North Fork of the South Platte on the Bailey run for this years Bailey Fest. In exchange for allowing us to camp on his river front land over Bailey Fest weekend (Aug 13/14), I agreed to bring a group in to spray the meadow with roundup to kill the thistles that are popping up in the meadow (landowners request in negotiation).
The plan is to get a group of volunteers next Saturday, June 25th. We will spend a couple hrs at the meadow that is about 1 mile above four falls. We will work as a team to spray the thistles with roundup. After taking care of business in the meadow, the plan is to paddle Bailey, and I'll have some beer and some food at the takeout.
I'll have all the equipment we need (roundup, sprayers, gloves & masks) to do the spraying, and no prior experience in working with weed control is necessary. I'd like to get a headcount at the end of next week by Friday to know how many sprayers to bring. I'll have a few extras if you decide to show up last minute.
It would be great if a group of the Foxton regulars, or anyone else for that matter, joined us for the volunteer work. We will drive directly to the meadow, so you don't need to paddle Bailey to volunteer.
Tentatively, we will meet at the Bailey takeout at 10am and caravan to the meadow from there. The meadow is a about 2 miles from Bailey. We will probably put on Bailey in the early afternoon and be off the river by late afternoon.
Thanks in advance for the help. The more volunteers we get, the quicker the work will go. Its too far out to tell what the levels will be, but its highly likely we will have a decent paddling flow as the natural flow alone is about 350 right now. I am hoping the high water stays up!
