Attn all video boaters/potential camera buyers

Waddup MBers... southeast boater here but passing this along and asking you all to get the word out

Back in Jan I picked up a Sanyo VPC e2 digital camera.

Well about a month ago it just flat out quit working! I have been in contact with sanyo who refuse to service the camera stating that their warranty is for 90 days and all labor would be on my dime. Total for labor $140 plus $22 shipping and another $45 for initial diagnosis of problem. This is just labor! not including parts.

I asked about this to the manager at sanyo customer service ( John 800 421 5013 ext 454) where i was told that thats just how it is... I asked if anything could be worked out, he replied very sternly "No"! I asked for a direct number i was given the number then he hung up on me as soon as I repeated the number.

So please, learn from my mistakes, and never buy Sanyo. Their products wont last and they dont stand behind them... Skip this company, and pass the message along.

Thanks for the time and spend your cash wisely

one word.

(some would replace that word with Nikon, either one)

REAL camera companies take care of their gear, Still or motion.

GO get a Canon, get out of warsawr & go take some pics. (I hear Merrimac is nice...)

Discover Denver, stay there!

I agree and use canon as well.

If you look around on ebay and the like you can get a used one at a good price.

Yeah I'd have to agree with the Canon or Nikon suggestions. I had a polaroid digital camera that just sucked and had to send it back to have the same problem show back up with the camera later. Our work cameras are Nikons and they are so much better.

Agree. Been using the new Stylus Tough 8000. 12 MP. Very compact. I got the floating strap and clip it to my PFD with a mini-biner. Slides right down in the front of the PFD. Has image stabilization, which is nice when you're bouncing around in an eddy trying to get a shot.

Will say that I've sent it back for warranty service twice. First time was seal failure on first use in salt water. Second time was user error. Didn't get the charger cover closed back tight after charging. First time, Oly replaced the whole camera. Second time, they replaced the "motherboard" and lens. No charge either time.

Not SLR, but shoots good pix and decent video for my purposes. Good boater cam, IMHO.
