Cool review. I have done canyoneering requiring rapels twice, and numerous non-technical canyoneering adventures. In my mind many of the same things that make kayaking appealing, make canyoneering appealing (canyons, scenery, waterfalls, cool places, solitude, adventure etc). I'm not at that level, but canyoneering certainly has major overlaps with steep creeking from the standpoint of portaging, canyon escapes, and preparedness for wilderness boating. Thanks for the book info..
