Anyone had problems with Stohlquist X-TRAXT System?

Stohlquist hasn't responded to my inquiry, so I was hoping I could get some responses from this board. I have a the 2004 Stohlquist rescue vest. I'm not using the funny plastic ring they put on the vest. Here's what I wrote to Stohlquist (I would say my belt was taking maybe 10x as much force to release than others):

I have a Stohlquist rescue vest (I believe 2004) and have a question about the release mechanism. I was doing some practice with the the vest the other day, and noticed it was not releasing in light currents where other people's vests were releasing. Testing the release on land, I discovered my vest required signifcantly more force to release it than other vests, even other Stohlquist vests (belt threading was done exactly the same). The main difference I could see was that the belt was thicker than that on most other vests, and the material different than some.

Has there been any issues with these belts or the release mechanism? I -think- that in a strong current the belt would still release, but it seems to me that the release should be as fluid as the other vests I tested.

I would appreciate any information you could offer.

The plastic thing is available at Stholquist resellers. If they didn't back to you, call the number on the web site, you usually get a real person. I have the same vest, and our whole class used them for Swiftwater Rescue last year and had no problems. We even practiced live bait rescue, etc. drills with releasing at the end of the drill.

Thanks for the feedback. I meant, eliminating a possible problem, that it's not getting hung up on the plastic ring because I'm not using it (what's the point?). I'll try giving them a call.
