Tell you what, The Rio was sweet yesterday! almost 600cfs and warm weather on the pilar section. was my first day out this season.
In NM you got the Rio Grande; Rio Chama; Pecos River;Gila;
Rio Embudo,Red, Pueblo,Santa Cruz,Rio Brazos, are the creeks. there is a couple more obscure creeks to get after if youre feeling exploratory.
There's definitely WW here (in Northern NM) we'll always be second fiddle to some places, all the top destinations, but the waters not freezing, and there's also killer climbing, skiing, mtn biking, and its only 5 hours to the Ark from Santa Fe, 6+or - to Crested Butte, 3 to Wolf Creek. 5 to Denver. 7-8 to Moab. 12 to Socal.
We usually have low water boating all the way to October or year round, depending on your need for a fix. (the Rio usually runs 400 all through the winter.)
As Roy said... check out the Funnel DVD for actual footage, Northern NM is plenty good.
Also Whitewater of the Southern Rockies, & River gypsies Guide to North America; both are great guidebooks.
Cant vouch for anything south of Albuquerque. that would suck...
Actually Taos is the only truly close area to all the goods. Even Santa Fe is an hour to the Rio + or -.
Pm if you want more details. Good luck figgerin it out
