Anyone ever get stuck at the bottom of the 30 footer on LSB?

Just curious. I personally have not, and have run it 20+ times, but have heard that at flows over 400K below the dam (on the eldo gauge) that it can be really nasty.

A beatdown there would be really bad as setting safety is almost impossible due to the dams cement walls all around the drop.

Some friends of mine went in there at a very high level back in 2000 or 2001 and there was some carnage. I believe it was about 700-800 cfs during the spring in flood conditions. A idaho native named sky or skylar got stuck in the bottom and was dropped in on. He broke his arm when one of his paddling partners struck him. Think Eric Bader, Crash, Genesis Peters and a few other of the BOC crew at the time were present.

Pretty nasty scenario but he came out and got fixed up.

it does get sticky as flows BELOW the damn aproach 400. It is always a good idea to post a watcher on the bridge to look for wood and report safe passage before folks start stacking up. It is really shallow, at least on the right corner, if not the whole way across.

At higher flows, aim for the bottom right corner for easier passage. Also, even at high flows you can stand in the eddy near the right side to rope or even just grab the bow loop of your side surfing buddy. You can not paddle out of this thing if you get surfed. The eddy fence is about 18 inches tall. I suspect you could stand up and walk out of the hydrolic if you had to swim, but sure wouldnt want to try.

hat drop puts a smile on my face every time, but it is a boat abuser. you do hit a concrete transition that is eroding and leaving big pieces of aggregate to gouge your bow.

We always encourage virgins to run it blind, which really ups the fun factor.

I had bruises just below to the front of my ankles from leaning into it on the right. Not ankle damage but big-time contusions in the soft places. Couldn't walk without pain for a week or so. Lean back.

I think there is some carnage on this drop in one of the late 90s/early 2000s vids, maybe Players or Dashboard Burrito.
