Any one have info on boating Costa Rica?

Going to Costa Rica in September - dont wanna fly with a boat, does anyone know about renting kayaks, or have any input on what rivers/areas are good - mostly going to surf but would like to get in a river if it isnt too hard to rent gear.

thanks for any info you can provide

Look up Matt J @

He owns a company on the Pacuare and might be able to help you out with a boat and maybe even a ride to the river. Great people and awsome rivers

Have a great time. I spent about a month down there in Jan. Let me know if you have any questions as you plan your trip.

There is always a reason not to...

I was just there in may. I got a day of kayaking in on the pacuare river. it is a 20 mile class 4 through a sick jungle. not to tough but keeps your attention the whole way. I went through a company called exploradoras outdoors. Its a rafting company, but for the same price as rafting they will let you use a kayak. the gear is good. I used a AT paddle and a brand new nomad 8.1. They have a jackson play boat aswell, but untile they see you paddle they want you in a bigger boat. The price is 100 bucks and they will pick you up at your hotel in San Jose, Arenal, or Puerto Veijo and return you to any one of the cities. Its a great way to get to the carribean or the volcanos without paying for a bus or a cab. I highly recomend this trip and outfitter. I have done it a couple of times and will hit every time I go to COsta Rica. If you are with someone who doesnt kayak, its great because they can raft along with you. Breckfast and lunch are also included in the price. It also runs year round.
