I am definitely inexperienced. I have went the last 3 weekends in a row on a river that has one Class IV section that I believe was every bit as intense as any part of Browns that we ran but I would guess by Colorado standards it would be III+. So still very inexperienced but I am in the midwest so I have to go where I can
I really want a book detailing the Lower Gauley river so if we decide to go I can really have the river studied up. I will not go unless I get more information and feel comfortable knowing the danger spots. There are some locals on Facebook wanting to group up and I might go that route. Hell I might just drive out there and watch from the sides and enjoy the festivities
. Thanks for the feedback

Basically, if you have to ask all these questions you are not ready yet for Class 3 or 4 boating on your own. I would just pay an outfitter to take you down both the Lower and Upper and have a good safe trip.
