Our youngest golden retriever, Lila, gets pretty hot easily. Last summer on the Main Salmon I took them for a hike on a layover day, just upstream to some old cabins. It was HOT. I had decided to hang out at the cabins until it cooled off a bit, and hike back to camp late. We alternated between the shade, and braving the sun to cool off in the water. Lila also doesn't really absorb water, so she has a hard time cooling off once she's too hot.
About 6PM around the corner came the most beautiful yellow boat I had ever seen. As they floated by I stuck my thumb out, and they pulled over. I asked if they were going past our camp, and they told me they had hoped to camp there! It is a smallish camp, and they had a big group, so adding them in wasn't an option. Still, the guy let me and the two pups hop on his raft, and he floated us down to our camp. As we pulled into camp some people thought it was funny this group had two dogs like ours, until they realized it was me and the two dogs!

I didn't have any beer to give him, since I don't drink. I was lucky enough to run into them at Buckskin Bills, and bought them a box of beer and some ice we had just bought (which they were out of by the time they tried to buy some). I was glad to have repaid the favor.
River people are so excellent, and most people have soft spots for dogs!
I am a river, babe - I've got plenty of time, I don't know where I'm going, I'm just following the lines..... - "We are water" by Shaye
