The boating season in on in Durango. From top to bottom the Animas drainage goes like this.
Upper A: running but low and cold.
1st Gorge Lime: Probably at a really good level but innaccesible because of snow on the road.
2nd Gorge Lime: Probably runnable but high.
3rd Gorge Lime/Cascade: Medium Sat, medium low Sun. One new log near the end of the rapids on the left where there has always been a log pile. No big deal- go right. The big news is that the diversion is off- meaning more water in Cascade than normal... and there is now a gauge:
USGS Current Conditions for USGS 09359080 CASCADE CR ABV CASCADE CR DIVERSION NR ROCKWOOD CO
This gauge (so long as the diversion is off) gives you the flow for the Cascade slot. It is also a great proxy gauge for Lime, which tends to have a very similar flow. Double Cascade and add a bit of low elevation runoff and you get 3rd Gorge.
Crazy Woman- probably about perfect, but still super sketchy.
Rockwood is the best class 3-4 run that has water in the Southern Rockies right now.
Pandoras is high but people are running it...
The Durango playpark is really good over 1200 right now.
That is all.
