advice for newbie

So I could use some great advice. I'm not finding a lot of information online, and would greatly appreciate any help you might be able to give me!

I'm from the flatlands, and there really isn't any whitewater around, besides a new whitewater park that opened up about a 2 hour drive from here.

I'm really fortunate that my fiance has agreed to move to Colorado with me next year, once I finish school. One of the reasons is that I have always wanted to get into whitewater kayaking, as I currently have only minimal flat water/slow moving experience.

Can you give me any suggestions on where I can find information about boats and equipment that I would need to get started, and a place for good reviews on play boats.

I'm planning on doing a rolling class this winter, and would appreciate any other advice on what I should be doing so that I can hit the ground running when we move.

Thanks for your time and help!

Neely books are good. Eddyflower is a good website to get basic information on different rivers....and for general information on boats and whitewater this website is a great resource. There is a resource bar just above the forum texts, and the 3rd from the right button is the search. Put pretty much anything whitewater related into there and you are going to come up with a wealth of information.

CKS's website is a great place to get some basic information about different types of boats: CKS| Whitewater Kayaks: Rodeo/Freestyle Kayaks, Free Running Kayaks, River Running Kayaks, Creeking Kayaks

I would suggest making the 2-hour drive to the local playpark to practice paddling your boat around before your roll class...but make sure you know how to pull your skirt and wet exit before getting into it in any water.

Welcome to the "Buzz" and kayaking.
