Activities during the night?

Hey - I thought I'd start a thread here and see if everyone can share some games or fun activities during multi-day trips that rafters play with during evenings or layover days.

I myself, for one, would like to know of some for my trip!

Bucky

My personal favorite, I have no idea what it is called but I learned it from a Guide in the grand canyon with Wildernous Adventures name mike (Great Company)

Materials:
2 Ammo Cans
1 Reasonably long rope

Goal: Get all the rope or get the other person off their ammo can.

Directions: Both participants stand on an ammo can, maybe 15ft apart, but can be adjusted based on the rope you have, it should be about half the length of the rope. Split the rope evenly between the players. On go the game begins! Lots of strategy, balance, and some strength in this game, and it is awesome to watch too!

Its really good if you have youngsters with you.

Nails!

You need a stump, a nail for each person playing-the larger, the longer the game...typically- and a hammer. Each person gets a change to toss the hammer in the air and catch it back on the handle. If it is caught, that player gets to swing at another's nail already placed evenly in the stump. The type of toss dictates the number of swings: 1) straight in front of you-one swing; 2) under the leg- two swings; and 3) behind the back and over the head (the most dangerous given that beer is usually involved)- three swings. As you can see this becomes a game of bullying and taking sides, because you may end up as the one that everyone takes swings at. If a player's nail is bent before being completely driven in then they get a new nail. The last nail standing is the winner.

This is a good game for campsites that you frequent and can store the perfect stump. The stump typically becomes "galvanized" on one side, and perfect stumps are hard to find and not easy to transport.

Have fun!

Kayakers have been known to play a game called "Drink the Rafters Beer," although this isn't limited to layover days or evenings.

Other thoughts:
Horse shoes
Rock Stacking (the opposite of genga)

My favorite "Hot Flaming Coal"
When the fire dies down. Grab a cool coal from the side of the fire and start to juggle it around the campfire. Kind of like hot potato but it looks cooler. The more you toss the coal the hotter and smaller it gets. Yes it sounds crazy but at night a cool coal looks red hot. Just don't let it sit in your palm for too long.

Screw that game! I was wasted on our last trip and someone threw it to me while I wasn't paying attention. BURNS ARE NOT FUN!

saw this one on a westwater trip a couple years ago. beer can stomping races. save up the beer cans make two lines of 10 beer cans in the sand. two people race to see who can stomp all the beer cans flat and get to the finish line first. great way to save space for packing your cans out. usually pretty comical since a good bit of beer has to be consumed before the game can begin.
