I like how the term "discovered" is used, yet the article talks of several people who have known about it for years, as well as a logging crew who at some point were able to leave part of a bulldozer there.

yeah, aparantly the falls aren't such a secret or my they ranger just needs some geritol. I quick google image search and I found these folks who were there in 2002. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...lr%3D%26sa%3DG

1) It looks like some of the falls we have in the Smokies and southern Cumberland plateau here in the eastern US: some days you go and have a big, beautiful waterfall, other days, were it not for some dried algae on the rocks, you'd never know it was there.

2) Did you guys check out the google pics Damon was kind enough to post links to? All I gotta say to that is *nice* find on the uber-unibrow on that Dale kid!

This brings back some memories. We lived about 12 miles from Whiskeytown for 22 years and our son Garrett still lives there in Redding. We've spent some time biking, hiking, and boating in that drainage. Interesting point is the highest source peak for those creeks is Shasta Bally at about 6,000 feet.

In the interesting names department, Our group started boating Brandy Creek, which is one ridge east of Crystal Creek in the early 90's using IK's. Those creeks are pretty vertical, but very low volume. Check out the story and pictures from those days here.

Nowdays, Garrett considers Brandy Creek to be pretty low key, but he did buy a boat especially for it this past year. He felt his Dagger Nomad was a little big for the run.

Nice to see the old home town make the national news.

"Actually, my pics are from Boulder Creek Trail. It's not the same falls.
The story may or may not be legit... I've only been up there that one
time."
