This brings back some memories. We lived about 12 miles from Whiskeytown for 22 years and our son Garrett still lives there in Redding. We've spent some time biking, hiking, and boating in that drainage. Interesting point is the highest source peak for those creeks is Shasta Bally at about 6,000 feet.
In the interesting names department, Our group started boating Brandy Creek, which is one ridge east of Crystal Creek in the early 90's using IK's. Those creeks are pretty vertical, but very low volume. Check out the story and pictures from those days here.

Nowdays, Garrett considers Brandy Creek to be pretty low key, but he did buy a boat especially for it this past year. He felt his Dagger Nomad was a little big for the run.
