I'm starting to plan 2011 Bailey Fest. I'd like some input on camping options. I'd like to have a free (to Fest boaters) camping set up that is optimal for what folks want.
Here are the options:
1) Camping on private land in a meadow right on the river about a 1/2 mile upstream from 4 falls. This spot is beautiful and can handle a lot of people. No houses are close by. Camping would be great and we would be right on the river. Downside is access is by rocky 4WD road or river only. Folks without 4WD or clearance would have to shuttle in with others. If there was a lot of traffic, the one lane 4WD road could be a pain if folks are coming and going. I still have to seal the deal with the landowner, but I got verbal confirmation that we could use it last year.
2) Meadow group campground. Campground Details - Meadows Group (CO), CO - ReserveAmerica - [nrso]
This campground can hold over 100 people, and costs $125 per night. Rental would add to the fest budget, but I could figure out a way to fund it. Pros are everyone could access, cons are it costs money (but still free for campers), and its further away from the river that the other two options... I think its 10 miles along the dirt road.
3) Same setup as last year. Get a free site along the road. Parking is limited, space can be tricky, and even thought I got there on thursday last year to prep for a sat night camp out, I almost didn't get a spot.
4) No camping... I'll find my own camping. Note that camping options are limited.
I'd like to have a good group camp spot so we can have a good ole fashioned ragin camp party sat night.
