rmpeddie, thanks for the info and experience. I had to look up what a mystery move is, and wow, I did not realize there were any rapids large enough to do that in that section, especially to a 7ft pontoon/raft, that's a lot of air bouyancy to be sucked under, I take it that was at one of the drops? That will keep me humble and away until I have a lot more skill in my raft, I've only been rowing a month now and I really don't need to get into a situation like that. I'm also not sure how my raft would handle a 3ft drop, I haven't even been over any 1ft ones yet, I usually just avoid them.
I read a story from some guy who punctured his raft on that section, said he patched it on the shore and got a ton of hassle and a court date, but things worked out that time for him at least. I've been reading up on this place a lot and understand that the ranchers/hands are not the nicest people at all and are very watchful of the river. One thing about me, I always have at least one extra oar, most times two, and I always have a patch kit and foot pump with me. If I do ever try this lower blue section I'll be sure to buy a large patch kit just in case (and maybe some camo paint too
I like the Colorado river below Gore, it's a great float for fishing, done it now a couple of times and I'm sure I'll be floating it some more. This lower Blue section is just one of "those" sections for me though, you know, those untouchable sections that just call your name every time you drive by, and the water from the road looks very easy and fishable, and I've heard so many great things about that section, to me it's the section that will require the most skill for me but will be rewarding as all heck too.
But that's why I'm here asking questions and out on the other rivers trying to get experience before trying anything like that.
