OK, I have four days off for Thanksgiving, and I have decided I am not going to sit around getting drunk and eating turkey. I am thinking about driving out to Moab to do some mt. biking. Anybody have any experience with biking in Moab this time of year? How is the weather? Should I bring my playboat or creekboat? Is there anything on the Colorado worth doing this time of year, that I could do in a day? Can you bring a dog on most of the trails around Moab?

Any other ideas of places to go that have good mt. biking, and good weather that are within 6 or 7 hours of Boulder? Thanks,

Clayton.

Do a google search of your own on Larry Addington; raper of land and sea, screwer of coal mining pensioners ,and MAJOR Republican campaign contributer. The list of legislators he supports and vice-versa is a veritable who's who of the troglodyte wing of the republican party.

Not content with lopping off mountain tops in Appalachia and ruining their watersheds ,he took his assault on the environment to the Belizean Island of Caye Caulker. In order to have an exclusive $1000 a night golf course resort /private island. The island is mangrove and he wanted his ' man cave' to have sandy beaches, so he brought down about as much heavy equipment as there is in the whole rest of the country to dredge up sand and cut mangrove on his Xanadu. This off course disturbed the already fragile barrier reef ,the western hemispheres longest, and damaged mangrove ecosystems critical to healthy Belizean fisheries,on his and neighboring cayes.
I fantasized about paddling over there in the night and going all 'First Blood' on his callous little palace.I'm sure he's got guards that'll shoot your ass,he already bought off the local police departments by buying them fancy pickup trucks with lights and sirens,a real novelty in Bz.You see them going all Barney Fife now every chance they get.I saw a rasta man smoke these keystone cops in a foot /truck chase right on Burns Ave. in San Ignacio,it was humor.Anyway this dude is disgusting ,he and his ilk need to be called out repeatedly a little shined on their atrocious behavior.

Was trying to see if he was related to David Addington,Cheney's lawyer and equally maniacal neo-con uber thug torture advocate.Apparently he's not .

I am going to CSU and only drive when traveling out of town (once or twice a month) and don't feel like keeping my car insured for 6 months at a time. My ideal situation would be a web site I go on or a number I call and tell the company to cover me for the day, weekend or possibly a date range. Does anyone know of such a service or am I just pipe-dreaming?
Thanks in advance!!

WAKE UP AMERICA!!!! Is trading with China "Fair Trade"? Not in the slightest! Last year's trade deficit was $180 billion dollars with China (to clarify that is 180 thousand millions just in one year). By the way... it's been increasing substantially every year. In order to boast these massive trade deficits, we barrow money in the form of government T-bills from the Chinese once again. Thanks to horrible trade practices and an idiotic war in Iraq, we now owe the Chinese over 5 trillion dollars (or 5 thousand billions), which is a substantial portion of our national debt.

Why we shouldn't trade with China under current circumstances:

They export products too cheap for their factories to produce to flood US and other markets to destroy local industries

Their currency is undervalued by approximately half of market value. This means that their exported goods are half as expensive as they should be in US markets (closing domestic industries) and US goods are double as expensive in Chinese markets (less incentive to buy imports in China).

The US rightly has a set of reasonable environmental and safety standards that the Chinese don't have to adhere to making our goods more expensive than theirs. In contrast many other nations adhere to strict environmental and safety regulations.

It costs a lot of energy to transport goods from China. We should be doing everything we can to reduce our trade deficit in oil consumption which is it at $400 billion dollars annually in oil imports.

Everyone is under the impression that we are a rich nation, when in fact we are an indebted nation with a dwindling job market and an increasing population. It's time to support our own country by making every effort to demand American products.

In the last year, a ton of great beers have started appearing in cans. FTIAC (Fat Tire in a Can) is pure delicious, and superior to it's bottled cousin, in my humble opinion. Ska's Modus Hoperandi is probably my favorite right now, but ohh the hangover! Needless to say, Dale's Pale was a pioneer and remains a near the top of the pack. Good old PBR remains in the top 10 for it's legendary value.

A thread was started recently on the Boater's Forum on the topic of tendonitis and treatment. Many of the posters seem to support the use of acupuncture, homeopathy, and other alternative medicine to treat medical issues. I believe most of alternative medicine is useless for treating anything physiological, but would rather not flood that thread with the debate!

Homeopathy operates on two basic principles: like cures like, and dilution increases curative strength. In fact, in many homeopathic remedies, the original substance is diluted to the point that it no longer contains a single molecule of the original substance. It is magic water. It has also shown no success in double-blinded clinical trials. For a skeptical analysis of homeopathy, I highly recommend James Randi's presentation on the topic:
                                            http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...5155605802136#
Acupuncture claims that everyone has an undetectable, unmeasurable "qi", that can be manipulated by inserting needles into meridian points. Unfortunately, we have only figured out how to perform double-blinded trials with acupuncture in the past decade, so solid clinical trials are hard to find.

The only area in which acupuncture appears to beat acupuncture is in pain management, but randomly sticking needles to shallow depths in people shows the same effect. If the needles are inserted in random locations, instead of at meridian points, is it really still acupuncture?

One aspect that has been adopted by alternative medicine that I do accept is that people tend to get better on their own. People have a medical issue, try homeopathy (or conventional medicine, or acupuncture) and get better within a week. Odds are, they were going to get better anyway. That's why we need to conduct controlled, double-blinded studies instead of relying on anecdotal evidence in evaluating treatments.
