So, I have been looking online for Level 1 avy classes around CO and noticed that they generally follow the same AIARE, AAA, AMGA curriculum, and cost about the same. Since in live in Glenwood, I was thinking about taking this course through Aspen Expeditions. Has anyone taken this course through them and what was your impression? Or is there a hands down best class through someone else I should take?

Thanks

I'll be hitting the Basin (or other Colo Pass ski areas) on Friday afternoons during the early season and would be glad to share the ride with anyone that wants to join me. My schedule will have me at the Dinosaur lot Park & Rides in Golden just off I-70 at about noon on Friday, and I expect to be back down by about 5 or 5:30.

This is also a good way to get to the Summit Co. bus system if someone's going up for the weekend and needs a ride up the hill.

Drop me a PM if you're interested.

The owner of Whistler Blackcomb, co-host of the 2010 Winter Olympics, has sold one of its Colorado ski resorts as the company grapples with a heavy debt load.
Intrawest ULC, which owns Whistler and nine other winter resorts in North America, said Tuesday it has sold Copper Mountain to Powdr Corp., based in Park City, Utah, and one of the larger ski resort operators in the United States. The price was not disclosed.

Intrawest sells Colorado ski resort - The Globe and Mail

I wonder what Powdr Corp. will be like? I assume they are just another big Corporation and will run Copper as such. I had hoped Tony Nevelly would buy Copper back and bring back the old ski resort for skiers ethics. Meaning longer seasons and great spring skiing until May. I had assume spring days in late April back in the 90's.

So, I recently bought a used splitboard (Venture Divide) w/ skins and am wanting to start going into the B/C. I need some help with gear recommendations like:

- who do you recommend taking an avy class from?
- avalung?
- what probes/beacons are recommended?
- what spare parts do you carry?
- aluminum vs plastic shovel?
- what collapseable poles do you use?
- any other gear that you can think of?

I've been a snowboarder for many years now, but have spent 99% of the time riding resorts and would love to explore more areas around here. For the mean time, while I practice getting used to my gear, I'll be doing laps at Sunlight and Willies peak after work once the snow starts falling. I most likely will not be doing anything too crazy this season, but would like to have the proper gear for when I eventually do, and want to be damn sure I know how to use it.

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.
