OK, I have four days off for Thanksgiving, and I have decided I am not going to sit around getting drunk and eating turkey. I am thinking about driving out to Moab to do some mt. biking. Anybody have any experience with biking in Moab this time of year? How is the weather? Should I bring my playboat or creekboat? Is there anything on the Colorado worth doing this time of year, that I could do in a day? Can you bring a dog on most of the trails around Moab?

Any other ideas of places to go that have good mt. biking, and good weather that are within 6 or 7 hours of Boulder? Thanks,

Clayton.

Or is there a hands down best class through someone else I should take?

So I won the lottery yesterday and scored a Feb 9, 2010 trip. Yay me.

The NPS wants my list by 1 Dec, 2009 so obviously I am in a bit of a scramble to get some commitments. People who add after that have to pay an extra c-note. If you are for the most part easy going and have been dreaming of this trip perhaps this is your chance. Like every other trip we would like to balance it out with some gals. You do not need to be a class V boater to do this trip. The most important factor is desire to make it happen - telling your boss/spouse/dog you will be gone for two weeks and doing it.

This trip will be ~15 days on the water for an average of ~15 miles per day. I like to get going early so we have time to stop places and hike and also get to camp before too late. The average temps at Phantom Ranch in Feb are high of 63.7 F and low of 41.5 F at night. I would recommend having a drysuit or at least wetsuit/drytop combo.

I am not rolling in dough so group cost will be kept to ~$600 per person (group food, shuttle, permit, tribe fees). Any gear you need to buy or rent is on your own. I am based in Durango so some carpooling will happen from there. Still interested? send me an email or p.m. with your info and a phone number. I'll need a $100 deposit per person by Nov 27 so I can pay the man.

An exploit in our software was taken advantage of by some hackers who linked to a malicious site. It appears there was a little over 4 hours between the time it happened and the time we took the servers offline Thursday.

In an effort to minimize damage to the board we opted to shut everything down while we investigated the issue and formulated a game plan. Our team (server admins, programmers, and software vendors) coordinated and developed a plan to remove the malicious files and secure the servers. We believe that forum members should not have any system issues associated with this so long they didn't visit the malicious site AND install anything.

While the service interruption was unfortunate, it was important to us to make sure this issue was fully addressed before returning to business as usual. Protecting our community from this kind of intrusion is paramount and we'll post more info here as it becomes available. It's possible that we may need to continue tweak the forum setup and if so, we may have another service interruption.

We thank you for understanding :)

Hey there! I'm a Chef in Durango Colorado looking to start a new business catering to outdoor enthusiasts. Being deemed the Camp Chef from early on this idea was born out of necessity on the water's of the Colorado.

What I really need to know is if this is a service that would be welcomed by others. No doubt you can plan and prepare your own food but with larger groups it can be a ton of work. That's where I hope to come in...

If you have a moment please download my questionnaire. This will give me a better idea of what others would use or ideas of things that I have not thought of that would be helpful to others. You can email it to me at basecampfoods@gmail.com or simply drop me a line here on mountain buzz.

Thanks so much and hope to see you out there!

Heads up for the final Boulder and Golden classes tonight and tomorrow.

We're taking a much needed extended Thanksgiving break from fund raising and teaching, but will be back at it in December and January with classes in Denver and Winter Park.

Remember, in order to take the on-snow you must attend at least one classroom.

No registration needed for the classroom. We just ask that you bring at least $5 to donate to the cause, and bring a friend. They'll thank you for it later.
